THE SOUND OF DICTATORSHIP – 50 YEARS OF APRIL

The horizon of Portuguese boats heading towards ex. Portuguese colonies in Africa. A colonial war lost for Portugal and highlighted by the loss of many Portuguese and Africans in Angola, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. Exile in France was the only opportunity to escape to Ultramar. The documentary highlights the Carnation Revolution as an important milestone with the fall of the PIDE, and the release of political prisoners from Aljube, Caxias, Peniche, Angra do Heroísmo, and Tarrafal in Cape Verde. The 25th of April and the fall of the Estado Novo that was in force from 1932 to 1974.
