Whithin the Maelstrom is a documentary essay that follows the creative process behind the theatrical adaptation of La Vorágine, directed by Juan Carlos Moyano and based on the novel of the same name by José Eustasio Rivera—a cornerstone of Colombian literature that denounces the violence of the rubber boom in the Amazon and explores the boundaries between civilization and barbarism. The film traces Moyano’s scenic journey from the first rehearsals in 2005 to its reimagining in 2024, the centennial year of the novel’s publication. Through archival footage, interviews with actors from the original and current casts, and reflections by Moyano himself, the documentary reveals how the theatrical work has evolved into a space of ethical, corporeal, and poetic exploration. From an audiovisual perspective, Ocarina Cine offers a distinct gaze that dialogues with the theatrical language—a visual proposal that weaves rhythm, texture, and editing to accompany the stage universe. Dentro de la Vorágine does not document a revival, but rather gathers the traces of a living process, where theater becomes archive, memory, and political gesture.
