Inspired by true events. In an interrogation room in Germany, a Black man faces the camera—the voice of the questioning authority. His words are a visceral outpouring, a silent scream against a suffocating reality. What should have been a simple lunch turns into a cruel reminder that, for him, even the most basic necessities are a battlefield. Ignored, rejected, and expelled from a restaurant for no apparent reason other than the color of his skin, he relives the humiliation in a fragmented narrative spanning languages and cultures—Togo, his ancestral legacy, his mother tongue; English from Nigeria, his paternal language; and German, the language of the country where he now attempts to exist. Every word carries pain, anger, and a desperate desire for dignity. The film delves into the brutality of everyday racism, exposing the weight of constantly being watched, judged, and discarded. Between suffocating pauses and glances that speak louder than words, “I Just Wanted to Eat” questions: How long will existence itself be an act of resistance?
