Selected Film
“I need to recover that world to change this one”, Laura says. Then she starts searching among memories, letters, friends; she listens to the piano, climbs the mountain, looks for the landscape full of snow where she was born. She travels again to visit the house where her adoptive grandmother, Yenia Dumnova, lived (and died). It´s a retrospective search, a historical and emotional reconstruction made of scraps, photographs, archive documents and fiction. Laura gets to meet those who knew Yenia intimately, her friends and family. The streets she walked. The places she worked in. As her research develops, she will discover a new dimension in Yenia's story: a fervent admirer of Pushkin, a painter, a set designer, a brave political activist. A complex woman, moved by deep passions and clear reasons, some of which cannot always be explained, or understood. Laura will find out that Yenia´s tragic dead, after a lively romance with Mario, the love of her life, that lasted than half a century, was the requiem for a fate that started in 1944, in the last months of the Second World War. While unraveling the secret history of Yenia, admiring her for her commitment, her sensitivity and her ethical integrity, Laura will also rediscover her own path: her relationship with exile, with time, family, art, adulthood and death.
