Tango originated on the South America in the 1880s at the border of Uruguay and Argentina, in poor urban port areas. It was a folk dance performed on the streets and in bars. National melodies mixed, creating the memorable tango sound. The first tango dancers were regulars of the brothels, who thus killed their time while waiting in line. At the beginning of the 20th century, the dance quickly gained popularity and, changing, spread to Europe, the USA, Japan, and later conquered the whole world. There are many types and styles of tango. Gallo Ciego is one of the most famous and popular tangos these days. It sounds at all milongas, it is performed by different orchestras, and everyone has their own style of performance. Gallo Ciego by the Tango Bardo Orchestra sounds absolutely incredible. I was lucky enough to hear it live at a concert in Mexico City and this inspired me to create an animated film.
